Understanding Your Body Shape
Dressing for your body shape isn't about "hiding" anything; it's about balancing proportions. Use this calculator to identify your shape, then use that knowledge to choose cuts that flatter your natural silhouette.
The 5 Main Body Types
- Hourglass: Shoulders and hips are roughly equal, with a significantly smaller waist. This is considered the most curvy shape.
- Pear (Triangle): Hips are wider than the shoulders. The goal is often to balance the upper body with structured shoulders or prints.
- Apple (Round): Shoulders and hips are similar, but the waist is less defined (wider than shoulders/hips). The focus is usually on legs or décolletage.
- Inverted Triangle: Shoulders are wider than the hips. The goal is usually to add volume to the hips/legs.
- Rectangle (Athletic): Shoulders, waist, and hips are roughly the same width. The goal is often to create the illusion of a waist or curves.
How to Measure Correctly
For the most accurate result, wear form-fitting clothing or measure directly on the skin. Keep the tape measure parallel to the floor and relaxed, not digging into the skin.
